Insurance company just ok'd a new motor,  Old motor hit a rock in the road.  Local HD has a new 120R that has been sitting for months on a shelf in service.  Soooooooo....I am *maybe* getting a new 120R motor, for the price of a new 110 with 259 cams not the 266Es. I have the extended warranty & do not think it will cover the 120, so am debating on it vs the 110.  Have about a week to decide.  Either way, I get a brand new motor.  Good tech doing the install, trust him since does good reliable work.

With any luck, & lately that seems to be elusive, should get the bike back in about 2 weeks, so I figure, 3.

Will soon have a 5 year old bike with a new ?? motor, so may keep it longer than originally planned.

Allstate, my insurance company, drug their feet & never really responded to a query except for one time.  They NEVER kept me updated as promised - I called or emailed them each time.  This could have all been resolved last Thursday or Friday. Plus they figured the estimate $440 short so the shop has to file a "supplement".  Was asked today if I received "good service & my questions were resolved satisfactorily". Instead of dog cussing them, which they deserve, I told then no, & then told them why ($440 short yadda yadda).  They then sounded like they were reading some mumbo jumbo response/quasi apology but offered nothing but their mumbles, so I ended the call, politely.

And yeah, I want the 120. A lot.   But if it craters in a year or 2 vs the 110 cratering in a year or 2, am out thousands vs $50. Logic sucks.

Wouldn't the 120 have a new factory warranty of its own?  Your ESP will still cover everything else.

As far as I know, the 120Rs do not have a warranty. Although some dealers have been known to give peeps 1 year.

The 120ST does come with a warranty.

As far as I know, no warranty on the 120R.  It's a racing motor.  With HD internals & no ESP, my Pavlovian response is no.  On my next bike (if there is one) am considering a 103 with key internal engine parts replaced - out of the box.

Was told there is an ESP for this 120, but is different than the regular one.  May see what that is.  Am taking the 02 RK to a bbq in the park tomorrow so may swing by the shop to check it out.  Or, if can talk dealer into a 1 year waranty on that 120, might do it since .....what the hell.

Other than this 'excitement' am spreading pine straw tomorrow in the flower beds.

Got bike back today.  New complete 110 motor.  Ran well with old tune, a bit quieter than the old one.  May need to be tweaked but no back fire & accel seems ok.  Insurance company picked up 7700 of the tab & I paid 498 of my 500 deductible.  Will put a few hundred miles on it then dyno.

Not sure if I mentioned this elsewhere, this happened on a trailering trip to the Texas Hill country.  On the way over, in Lake Charles, LA, a strap broke on the bike next to mine & put some surface scrtaches on a saddlebag plus a 4 inch hickey on the top of the gas tank.  They buffed out fine, shop did it for me no charge.  Was surprised how the gas tank mark disappeared, looked like hell before the buff.  They used a 4 stage polishing compound.

The RK got a work out while the Ultra was down, glad it's back after 2 months.

Thanks!  True story - when looking for the 07 CVO Ultra after 5 1/2 years of owning the RK, the BSR suggested not trading the RK since would need a spare while the 07 was broke.  Truer words never spoken, damn thing was ok for a year & was then down about half the time.  Speaks volumes about late model HD ownership.  Have had a couple of standing offers to buy the RK if I ever think of trading it.  It's like a comfortable pair of broken in boots that are old but still fit perfectly.

Funny but for some reason have an attachment to the RK, while the 10 is not viewed anywhere near the same.  Fully expect to trade the 10 someday, but not the RK.

Service Mgr. today hinted at some good changes for 16 but was non specific.  They have a brochure or sheets with some details, specs?, colors & is ultra pool boy top super secret.  So no idea what.  Talked about the 14/15 Infotainment issues & these are fixed now with last updates.  Maybe something better in store for that screen in 16.  Will know before long.

Wow, I'm on my 9th riding season with mine and it hasn't stranded me yet. It was close two years ago when the shifter came apart 40 miles from home but I figured out how to get it back together with the tool kit. I've done everything I think it might need but who knows. I'm just under 40,000 miles on it. Im glad it all worked out for you. I'd like my CVO to be my full time dependable road king.

My 07 was a lemon.  It was always breaking down.  You got a good one.   Thumbs Up

Have 31k miles on the 10.  Am figuring 2-3 more years more for it- probably - should be good to 50k+ miles.  I like the waterbikes, have rode 3 & much better ride.  Heat contol is a plus but for me the ride is noticeably better than my 10 & that will eventually win out.  My guess is at some future point HD will put enough sparkles & unicorn dust on a newer model & I will go slack jawed into moron buy mode  buy one.

Think this is very subjective.  Know guys with 80s or 90s HDs & they love them long time.  They do not consider trading. Ever.  I understand that.  Know some that trade almost every year & can understand that too, but it costs big $$$$.

With geezer bike back will be riding more.  Can carry more crap on the Ultra so will be using it for more errands & generally wandering amuck when I can.

Glad you got it back in sound shape.  My son was the detail guy at Schaeffer's Harley for the year between high school and becoming a puddle pirate.  He's gotten nemo looking 5 years younger with a buffer and some wax drawn from a unicorns ear.  Or he did.  Now that it's been a year I need a way to get him at it again.  Offered a franklin the last time he was home.  Bastich turned me down.  He fixed up some scuffs and shallow scratches on some friends bikes as well.  So it's pretty amazing what they can do.

Right now the thought is Nemo stays in the fish tank and I get a Road Glide of some flavor.  But our thought is to retire into a camper in about 10 years.  When we do that it will be one bike each.  So I don't know if I'll keep this one or not for sure.  I know the '08s were like the '07s but I've been for the most part in Jim's shoes.  I did wear out a set of lifters at 50k.  Covered under ESP.  Blamed Amsoil.  Don't know or care as I think syn oil is syn oil.  I went back to the HD stuff because they run a special in the spring and I get it dirt cheap.  Oh, the radio is crap but now that the ESP is done I'll let Ironcross fix it right in the fall.

So here's the burning question - Buyers remorse?  Wishing you went 120 or have you decided you love the 110 long time?

Am ok with light surface scratches.  Do not have te skill/patience/knowledge for the ugly stuff.  Have used a couple of touch up painters for the other vehicles.  Little bastard next door (impossible to prove) left a bb ding near gas tank of the truck.  Took the guy 3 hours - dry time, sanding, sprinkling magic eraser dust - to disappear that.  He was working on 3 other vehicles, ssme time frame. $120 to me, I figured he makes $100 an hour, figuring paint & material. But he was shy about a bike, said especially gas tanks were tough.

Maybe pay your son for lessons?   Grin

Ok with the 110.  Am curious about motor cc for 16-17.  Methinks they go larger.  When, who knows?

Lifters in these 110s are crap.  Lots of failures, shops recommend swaps at 20k or sooner.  Bad juju.

Check Walmart for V twin sny Valvoline.  $35 for 6 quarts. Cheaper in FL since pic sideways.   Cool

Do they stock right side up ones?  It may be interchangeablemen.

If I get a 16 I hope it's not the 120.  I don't want to be the first year guy on a HD engine.  I do not need anymore than my 110 gives me.  If they do come out with the 120 I will wait for the 17s.  or 42  Because with that many numbers in one paragraph the universal answer should be used.  Fer sure.

Riding buddy has a neighbor kid like yours.  Comes over and steals cig buts and lights them up to smoke the filters.  Real winner this one.  Adult sperm and egg donors do nothing even when footprints showed his path.  My buddy now has cameras connected to motion gnomes who talk to interweb gnomes who pass by the pic storage gnomes.  All in all if this kid passes gas in my buddy's yard, he'll have proof.  As long as the gnomes will testify.  So far the gnomes are sleeping in.  Kid has disappeared.  Don't know if hes a flock of seagulls and ran, ran so far away or if Stings folks came and took him away to Juvi.  Or if the parents murdered him and he's rotting in the basement.  To be frank (Hi, I'm Frank!) none of use really care which it is.  To be JC (Oh, it's me again), I'm hoping for a murder so I can be interviewed on TV.  I have the redneck hat picked out already.

I want to be the first person in the history of television to say "He was a scumbag kid who had bad parents and no ones gonna care one iota that he's dead."  You ain't gonna hear "He was such a nice kid" crap out of me.

No right side up ones in Florida.  The hurricane laws here keep a lot of stuff sideways, so when other stuff gets knocked over, it looks normal.  The oil will work up down left & right though.  At less than 6 a qt some think is too cheap.  Marketing error on Valvolines part.  Me happy short time already.

Last pool boy rumor is 113.  Why?  Bigger than Indian 111. Bigger than HD 110.  Different heads or some crap.  Pool boy is very vague.  He also mentioned 117.  Said nothing about 42.  Full water jacket for MoCo motors instead of exhaust valve cooler?  HD should be that smart.

Kid next door is 7.  Saw others like him when our kids were that age.  Several in penitentiary, parents in crazy/nut house, no discipline with chitty spoiled brat is common denominator.  No idea why, but the neighborhood asshole cat has disappeared.  No idea why.  Can claim zero credit.  Neighbor kid maybe cooked/ate?

I'd like to see a complete water cooled motor.  I think EPA will make up some enviro bullchit citing Jamie and Adam since they didn't insult Dear Leader when he used presidential time for a Mythbuster cameo.  No luck.  The myth that he's done anything useful was busted.  To meet said cited chite Harley will make all bikes water cooled.  So every body gets either crashbars and lowers or the V-Rod "Gumby casket".

The question is when?  On the positive, that much displacement, fuel injected with water cooled tolerances could be a game changer.  At least until the oil and water fought it out as to who would leak first.  You know those two just don't mix.

You don't really think HD is silly enough to go for a mine's bigger than your... never mind.  I think it'll be a 113 or bigger.

We've debated dino vs. syn.  Weights.   Brands. Color. change frequency.  pour method.  temps.  temp measuring.  temp measuring location.  cooling.  scavenging.  scavenging when changing.  and value as a Christmas gift.

But I believe we've added a new oil debate.  Directional use advantages.  I fully expect Don to join in at this juncture.  I believe he's been the unreasonable voice of reason in most oil debates so I feel this should continue at until Howie comes back to claim dino is better sideways and he just wants to be free to ride his machine.

Unless we set up a tent for the debate.  If we have a tent I want a wet t shirt contest.  We are bikers after all.

Valvoline syn also works when inside out & studies show it works outside in as well.  No oil has been proven to be more multi directional than Valvoline.  Never stops working - turn right, turn left, back up - yep it is still oily.  Studies also show it is consistently oily oil, unlike other oils that are quasi oily.  For oil ergonomics it is the best syn for $35/6.  An added bonus, unexpectedly, each quart is a bona fide 32 ounces.  No 31.99 ounce oil can make that claim.

The above pic is very in tents intense.
