Very nice melons!

Have been thinking about old recipes, stuff my grandmas used to cook that were really good that we have not had in years.  Today remembered chicken and dumplings, which was done as quail & dumplings sometimes depending on how well a hunt turned out.  Wife has a recipe in her head, pretty simple stuff. Boil birds, pull meat from bones, use boil as stock & add more as needed, add cut up biscuits covered in flour, salt & pepper to taste.  Not sure when I will get around to it, do not expect pics to look that great because - it's white on white with white gravy.

Will probably fry the legs as usual, seems to be what most like.

Chicken and dumplings, one of my all time favorites. Damn diet doesn't allow me to indulge. Maybe on the way to Eureka Springs at a Cracker Barrel.

We made it a lot when first married, back when we were still cutting up chickens.  Somewhere through the years we just quit making it.  probably about the same time we quit (for the most part) frying chicken.  Busy life, messy meal, easier to bring home a family pack.  Now life is less busy, time not so constricted, and memories of stuff is one of my more pleasant ways to spend that time.

Feel for ya Mike.  When it comes to meat like chicken, sodium goes off the chart in a hurry.

Right On Mikeee
NO DIET FOOD HERE!!

This was DR's last post on the site here. He had just had a lunch of ham steak and spiced apples. I know because I had been trying to get him to eat and he texted me that he had eaten that. I am amazed at the date  - - - 1/5/18  He passed 1/14/18 Had the stroke and went to the ICU on the 7th. My last text from him was the day of the stroke. He said he was feeling strange and his speech seemed slurred. Yet he texed me. That was the last time he had his phone. His oldest daughter took the phone because "it's newer than mine and he doesn't need it" 41 and greedy as a 3 year old- -  so I was never able to text him after that. I had to rely on his wife to keep my informed. Which is ok, but I know he would have texted with me up to the end. I post this because I wanted y'all to see how much this silly little juvenille website contributed to his daily routine and even at the end when it should have been the last thing on his mind he was participating in the community. God Bless you all for being his friends
Love & Respect

BB,

Real men respect and enjoy the people around them.  Sounds like DR was doing what came naturally to him.

He will be missed.

He is missed.  Iíve always loved the sea.  I appreciated his stories and insite on seamanship so much because itís on area I want to know more about but you just canít learn from a book.  The insite of an expert, especially one who can organize their thoughts and put them into writing is something to be treasured.

And missed when itís gone.  Your brother truly was one of the things that made the garage more than a frat house.

I truly enjoyed conversing with DR & reading his posts.  Learned about Merchant Marine & a lot of the world as well as his stories about him & his brother growing up.  He is missed.

Visited Spawn 1 for the weekend... lot of activity including a Gov't Mule concert Friday evening.  Her BF's dad plays in an old school mountain band and had a gig in the red neckest of red neck bars last night in a town called Wampsville.  All y'all would have loved it.  This morning, 10 of us met for breakfast at a local diner and the menu was completely predictable so I asked the waitress if she could put in an order for a cheeseburger, medium, with sauteed onions and mushrooms that included an egg over easy and a side of home fries. She said she would.  What I received was simply perfect.  The first bite broke the yoke which poured all over my beard that's reaching a foot in length and grossed everyone out that I needed a baby wipe to get back on track.  When the waitress came back I asked how the conversation went in the kitchen in getting the cook to make something offered at lunch, not now, she said she wasn't even going there with me.  I reached for and opened my wallet and pulled out my wallet and handed her a $5 and told her to give it to whoever made it and let them know it was PERFECT and should be a menu item.  She giggled and thanked me and said she'd  never lose another argument about a customer's demands with the kitchen again.

Not earth shattering but for fast food pretty good

Ask for a Meat Mountain at Arby's. It"s not on the menu but they serve it

You can check it out online. Just about everything the sell in one sandwich

$10  Not bad for what they give you

Interesting, but way beyond what I can eat these days.  However, I have to say that the Arby's greek gyro is way better than I expected.  I actually have stopped a few times to get one if I'm traveling.  During the work week I have a Hala food cart across the street run by a real muslim guy who makes great greek gyros.  Best I've ever had.  But better yet is his lamb over rice combo.

Sorry I got side tracked there.  Heading across the street now. Yum.
